When JoAnne asked me if I would consider joining her on this blog my immediate response was an excited yes. And though it was a quick and easy decision on my part, it truly comes from a solid and stable core that we have built up over time; a natural progression and extension of a working relationship that began just over 20 years ago. Over that span of time our relationship has gone from working together in the early stages of my own recovery to a more recent and ongoing collaboration on a book we are currently writing together on recovery. It is out of that successful partnership that JoAnne, I believe, decided to approach me to be a part of this interactive recovery blog
In a very real sense JoAnne and I are coming to this project from two distinct angles. She, with an extensive amount of clinical/counseling work and a background as a deeply committed therapist, while I come to it from the other end of the spectrum; a former child of an alcoholic who has moved through his own process, transitioning from recovering to simply recovered. This two angle approach is going to be the strength of our partnership on this blog. You see, I grew up amongst alcoholism so I understand it from the inside out. I have lived the life, suffered its consequences, and eventually recovered from its effects.
Some people say all things happen for a reason. That may be. But whether that is a definitive truth ... I'm not wise enough to know. What I do know to be true, however, is this; JoAnne and I have come together on this blog for a very specific purpose and reason. To help! So, whether you are seeking answers for yourself or another, searching for recovery, or if you just need to start asking questions, we are here. Recovery happens all the time. And with your input, and all of us participating together, it can and will happen for you too. So, if you're ready, let's begin.
